Hello to everyone reading this entry.
The Los Angeles Black Book Expo returns for a fourth year of literary fun and awareness on Saturday, June 14, 2008. We’ve added two new activities for our young people and are constantly working on more special events to make this the biggest and best expo yet.
We will continue to invite authors and exhibitors local and nationwide showcasing their latest works as well as other products with an expected crowd of 3,000 during the day. Panel discussions of publishing, different genres, marketing and media will also be held for all who wish to fulfill their dreams of becoming a writer. Our Spoken Worlds program will be hosted once again by our friends from the Poets Jazz House, gracing us with performers sharing their passion with an audience. Last but not least, our children’s literary zone will have authors reading from their books, storytellers and a writing contest.
This year we’ve added a Young Authors Forum with writers who have achieved their dreams at an early age and will discuss future plans, hopes and advice for other potential non-adult authors. A Teen Poetry Slam is included and will be part of the Spoken Worlds program. Empire Beat Magazine will tape the finals and the winner will have an interview shortly thereafter. More to come.
Other plans are in the works to make LABBX 2008 an exciting venue for the community. We’ll keep you abreast on future plans and our Book Expo America reception in May. Let’s call it, ‘the expo before the expo’. Take care!
